The Woodson YMCA Wausau Wisconsin Branch held a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the completion of their design build remodel and addition by Ghidorzi. The design honors the rich history of the Woodson YMCA and surrounding neighborhood with a modern façade that represents the Y’s progressive mission of a healthy spirit, mind and body for all.
Chief Designer Wally Binder looks on while being recognized for his creativity on the project, along with another key project team member Architectural Drafter Tom Woehlert. Superintendent Art Rassias was also recognized for his management of the project and great relationship with the Y staff.
The clear vision of the YMCA leadership team and valued input from member focus groups enabled Ghidorzi to create a design that increases the functionality of the branch, expands programs and enhances the overall membership experience with:
- An arrival experience that sets the tone for a healthy spirit, mind and body with an improved aesthetic, zero stair entry and multiple check-in points
- An additional group fitness studio
- Hot Yoga Room
- Mini Care adjacent to check-in desk for efficient drop-off and pickup
- Gymnastics viewing area
- Expanded Day Care with new look and feel
- New youth lobby with theater
- Two-story climbing wall with glass viewing
- Birthday Party Room
- Computer Lab
- ADA wheelchair accessibility for gymnasium
- Skylight for natural daylighting
Ghidorzi strived for a green building goal throughout this design build project to realize many of the environmental, earth friendly and cost saving aspects of LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Alliance without the additional cost.
